iPhone screen replacement — what are you actually paying for?
Cracked your iPhone screen and now staring at a spiderweb of cracks, wondering how much it will cost you? Don't worry — I have been through thousands of screen replacements over the last two decades and I know exactly what you need. In this guide I explain all the options, the quality differences and, of course, the real prices for each model.
First, let us clear one thing up: there is no "single type of screen" for the iPhone. Apple has used OLED technology on the Pro models since the iPhone X, while the entry-level models (iPhone 11, iPhone Xr) used LCD. That means screen replacement is not one-size-fits-all — and that is where the price difference comes from.
Screen types — from budget to original
When you come in and say "I need a new screen", we ask which quality you want. Here is what that means in practice:
In-Cell (Budget)
This is the cheapest option. In-Cell screens are aftermarket products that use LCD technology even on models that originally have OLED. The result? The image is okay for everyday use, but you will not get those deep blacks and the contrast you have on the original. Colors are a little washed out, the viewing angle is narrower. But — it does the job, the phone is functional, and the price is affordable.
OLED (Premium)
The middle ground. These are aftermarket OLED panels that give a much better image than the In-Cell version. Black is truly black, colors are more vivid, contrast is excellent. For most users this is the best value for money. There is a difference compared to the original, but it is minimal — most people do not notice it in everyday use.
Original (Refurbished)
This is an original Apple screen that has been professionally refurbished — only the glass has been replaced, while the OLED panel, the touch digitizer and the other components are original. The image quality is identical to factory, because it IS a factory panel. The only downside can be a microscopically visible trace of the refurbishment at the edge, but in practice no one notices it.
Original (New OEM)
A completely new original screen, identical to the one Apple puts in factory devices. The best possible quality with no compromises. The price is higher, but you get exactly the same experience as when you bought the phone.
Genuine Apple (Authorized)
An Apple-certified screen with full software integration. True Tone works, Face ID works, there are no warnings in the settings. This is the only option that is "blessed" by Apple. The price is significantly higher, but for some users it is the only acceptable option.

Which screen should you choose?
My recommendation after 20 years in the business: if your budget is limited, In-Cell is a perfectly solid option for older models (iPhone 11, 12). For newer models (iPhone 14, 15, 16), OLED Premium is the best value for money. If you have an iPhone 17 or full compatibility matters to you, Original or Genuine Apple are the right choice.
One thing many people do not know: all replacement screens (except Genuine Apple) are REPLACEMENT parts, not original Apple. That does not mean they are bad — it just means Apple did not make them. Quality aftermarket OLED screens are excellent and last for years.
How long does a screen replacement take?
A standard screen replacement takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the model. The iPhone 15 Pro Max with its ceramic shield requires a little more care, but you are still done within an hour. You drop by, leave the phone, have a coffee nearby, and pick it up finished.
Will I lose my data?
No. A screen replacement does not affect the data on the phone. Your photos, contacts, apps — everything stays intact. Still, it is always smart to have a backup, because anything can happen in life.
Frequently asked questions
Does a screen replacement void the warranty?
If the phone is still under Apple warranty, a screen replacement outside an authorized service center may affect the warranty. However, a Genuine Apple replacement at our shop does not affect the warranty because we use original certified Apple parts.
Why is In-Cell cheaper than OLED?
In-Cell uses LCD technology that is cheaper to produce. OLED panels have self-illuminating pixels that give better contrast and colors, but cost more to produce.
Does True Tone work after a screen replacement?
With a Genuine Apple screen — yes, automatically. With the other options, the True Tone chip needs to be transferred from the old screen, which we do as standard with every replacement.
How long is the warranty on a screen replacement?
We give a 90-day warranty on all screen replacements, with a fiscal receipt. If any problem appears with the screen during that period — a free replacement.
Do you do screen replacement on the spot?
Yes, all repairs are done at our shop in New Belgrade. We also have a courier service for all of Belgrade — we pick up the phone and return it for 1,500 RSD.
What is a "refurbished original" screen?
It is an original Apple screen whose outer glass has been replaced. The OLED panel, touch sensor and all other components are original. Professional refurbishment is done in a clean room with special equipment.
