iPhone Screen Replacement — What Are You Actually Paying For?
Cracked your iPhone screen and now you're staring at a spiderweb of cracks wondering what it's going to cost you? Don't worry — I've been through thousands of screen replacements over the past two decades and I know exactly what you need. In this guide I'll walk you through all your options, the differences in quality, and of course — realistic prices for every model.
First, let's clear something up: there is no "one type of screen" for iPhone. Apple has used OLED technology on Pro models since the iPhone X, while the base models (iPhone 11, iPhone Xr) used LCD. That means screen replacement isn't one-size-fits-all — and that's where the price difference comes from.
Screen Types — From Budget to Original
When you come in and say "I need a new screen," we ask which quality you want. Here's what that means in practice:
In-Cell (Budget)
This is the most affordable option. In-Cell screens are aftermarket products that use LCD technology even on models that originally ship with OLED. The result? The image is fine for everyday use, but you won't get those deep blacks and the contrast of the original. Colours are slightly washed out and the viewing angle is narrower. But — it does the job, your phone is functional, and the price is very accessible.
OLED (Premium)
The sweet spot. These are aftermarket OLED panels that deliver a significantly better image than the In-Cell option. Black is truly black, colours are vivid, and contrast is excellent. For most users this is the best value for money. There is a difference compared to the original, but it's minimal — most people don't notice it in everyday use.
Original (Refurbished)
This is a genuine Apple screen that has been professionally refurbished — only the glass has been replaced, while the OLED panel, touch digitizer, and all other components remain original. Image quality is identical to factory spec, because it IS the factory panel. The only downside might be a microscopically visible trace of the repair at the edge, but in practice nobody notices it.
Original (New OEM)
A completely new original screen, identical to what Apple installs in factory devices. The best possible quality with no compromises. The price is higher, but you get exactly the same experience as the day you bought the phone.
Genuine Apple (Authorised)
Apple-certified screen with full software integration. True Tone works, Face ID works, no warnings in Settings. This is the only option that is "blessed" by Apple. The price is significantly higher, but for some users it's the only acceptable choice.

Which Screen Should You Choose?
My recommendation after 20 years in the business: if you're on a tight budget, In-Cell is a perfectly solid option for older models (iPhone 11, 12). For newer models (iPhone 14, 15, 16), OLED Premium is the best value for money. If you have an iPhone 17 or full compatibility matters to you, Original or Genuine Apple is the right choice.
One thing many people don't know: all replacement screens (except Genuine Apple) are AFTERMARKET parts, not original Apple. That doesn't mean they're bad — it simply means Apple didn't manufacture them. Quality aftermarket OLED screens are excellent and last for years.
How Long Does a Screen Replacement Take?
A standard screen replacement takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the model. The iPhone 15 Pro Max with its ceramic shield requires a little extra care, but you're still done within the hour. Drop the phone off, grab a coffee nearby, and pick it up ready to go.
Will I Lose My Data?
No. A screen replacement has no effect on the data on your phone. Your photos, contacts, apps — everything stays untouched. That said, it's always smart to have a backup, because life happens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does screen replacement void my warranty?
If the phone is still under Apple warranty, having the screen replaced outside an authorised service centre may affect that warranty. However, a Genuine Apple replacement at our shop does not affect the warranty, because we use original Apple parts with full certification.
Why is In-Cell cheaper than OLED?
In-Cell uses LCD technology, which is cheaper to manufacture. OLED panels have self-emitting pixels, which delivers better contrast and colours — but costs more to produce.
Does True Tone work after a screen replacement?
With a Genuine Apple screen — yes, automatically. With other options, the True Tone chip needs to be transferred from the old screen, which we do as standard with every replacement.
What warranty do you offer on screen replacements?
Original and refurbished screens carry a 90-day warranty, while InCell and OLED panels carry a 7-day warranty due to panel fragility (these are installed exclusively with the customer's prior consent). Always with a fiscal receipt. If any issue with the screen arises within the warranty period — free replacement.
Do you do screen replacements on-site?
Yes, all repairs are carried out at our shop in New Belgrade. We also offer a courier service covering all of Belgrade — we pick up your phone and return it repaired for 1,500 RSD.
What is a "refurbished original" screen?
It's a genuine Apple screen that has had only the outer glass replaced. The OLED panel, touch sensor, and all other components are original. Professional refurbishment is carried out in a clean room with specialist equipment.
