Phone Glass Repair — OCA Lamination Instead of a Screen Replacement
Cracked glass on a phone does not automatically mean you have to replace the whole screen. If the LCD or OLED panel beneath the glass works correctly — the image is clean, touch responds normally — there is a procedure called glass repair, or OCA lamination. This procedure involves replacing only the top glass layer, without touching the screen's electronics. The result is a fully functional screen at a considerably lower price than a complete replacement.
What OCA lamination is and how it works
The screen of a modern phone consists of several layers:
- The top protective glass — what you see and touch
- The OCA film (Optically Clear Adhesive) — the optically clear adhesive that bonds the glass to the panel
- The digitizer — the layer that registers touch
- The LCD or OLED panel — the component that shows the image
With most damage, only the top glass layer cracks, while the panel and the digitizer remain undamaged. OCA lamination involves:
- Removing the cracked glass from the panel using specialized equipment
- Cleaning the residue of the old adhesive
- Applying a new OCA film
- Laminating the new glass onto the panel in an autoclave (a vacuum chamber with controlled pressure and temperature)
The procedure requires specialized equipment and technician experience. At the Viper Mobile shop we use professional separation and lamination equipment that ensures a result comparable to the factory.
The repair process — step by step
In practice, glass repair looks like this:
- Diagnostics — we check whether the AMOLED/OLED panel beneath the glass is undamaged
- Disassembly — we remove the screen from the phone
- Separating the glass — we use special machines to heat and separate the glass from the panel. This requires precision because the panel is easily damaged
- Cleaning — we remove the adhesive residue from the panel with a UV lamp and solvent
- OCA bonding — we apply the OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) film and the new glass
- Autoclave — the screen goes into the autoclave where, under pressure and temperature, the glass bonds perfectly to the panel, with no bubbles
- Testing — complete testing of touch, colors and brightness
- Assembly — we put the screen back in the phone

How much you save compared to a screen replacement
The difference in price is significant. Here are a few examples:
| Model | Glass repair | Screen replacement (copy) | Saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Pro | 20,000 RSD | 11,000 RSD (copy) / 65,000 RSD (original) | Up to 45,000 RSD |
| iPhone 16 Pro Max | 34,000 RSD | 15,000 RSD (copy) / 80,000 RSD (original) | Up to 46,000 RSD |
| Samsung S25 Ultra | 18,000 RSD | 28,000 RSD | 10,000 RSD |
Note: glass repair preserves the original screen panel, which means you keep the factory display quality. With a screen replacement using a copy, you get a new panel that is below the original in quality. That is why glass repair is often also the qualitatively better option, not just the financial one.
Need phone repair?
When glass repair is not possible
This procedure is not applicable in every situation. Glass repair is not done when:
- The panel is damaged — black blotches, colored lines, or parts of the screen do not show the image
- Touch does not work on a larger part of the screen (a damaged digitizer)
- The glass is so shattered that removing it would damage the panel beneath
- The device was exposed to moisture through the cracks in the glass — a possible fault on the panel
In those cases a complete screen replacement is necessary. The technician at the shop always first assesses whether a repair is feasible before suggesting options.
How long the procedure takes
Glass repair takes on average from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the model. The procedure is longer than a standard screen replacement because it involves carefully separating the glass from the panel, cleaning and lamination in the autoclave. For most models, the phone is ready the same day.
Frequently asked questions
Does glass repair affect the quality of the screen?
No. The panel remains original, which means the colors, brightness and touch sensitivity are identical to before the damage. The only change is the new protective glass.
How durable is the new glass after the repair?
The new glass is equal in its characteristics to the factory one. Resistance to future damage depends on use — we recommend a quality screen protector (tempered glass) after the repair.
Does this service exist for Samsung phones too?
Yes. We do glass repair for Samsung Galaxy devices too — the A series, the S series and the Note series. The prices are listed in the table above, and you can see the complete list on the Samsung glass repair page.
Can I assess myself whether I need a repair or a screen replacement?
Roughly, yes. If the screen shows the image normally (no blotches, lines, dark zones) and touch responds across the whole surface, it is probably just glass damage. Still, precise diagnostics can only be given by a technician, because some panel damage is not visible to the naked eye.
Is there a warranty on glass repair?
Yes, we give a warranty on every repair. The warranty covers defects related to the quality of the lamination — if the glass separates from the panel on its own without mechanical damage, the repair is redone at no charge.
Does glass repair affect Face ID?
No. The Face ID components are in the upper part of the phone and we do not touch them during glass repair. After the repair Face ID works normally.
What if the panel is damaged during the repair?
It happens rarely (in less than 2% of cases), but if it does — we offer a complete screen replacement at a reduced price or refund your money. We are transparent about this and the technician tells you in advance in which cases there is an increased risk (e.g. extremely fragmented glass).
Can I bring just the screen without the phone?
Yes, if you are able to safely remove the screen from the phone. But we recommend leaving that to us — removing the screen without experience can further damage the panel.
