iPhone Battery Replacement — When Is the Right Time and How Much It Costs
Every lithium-ion battery has a limited lifespan. Apple designs iPhone batteries to retain at least 80% of their capacity after 500 complete charge cycles, which under average use means about two years. After that period, degradation accelerates and the consequences become noticeable — the phone drains faster, shuts down in cold weather, or displays an inaccurate charge percentage.
In this article we explain how to recognize that your battery has reached the end of its life, how much replacement costs by model, and what to expect from the procedure.
How to Check Battery Health
Apple has included a built-in tool for checking battery health:
Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging
Here you will see the maximum capacity percentage. What it means:
- 90–100% — The battery is in excellent condition. No replacement needed.
- 80–89% — Noticeably shorter battery life. For heavy users, this can be limiting, but the phone is still functional.
- Below 80% — Apple itself displays the message "Battery performance is significantly degraded". Replacement is recommended.
Beyond the percentage, pay attention to how the phone behaves:
- The phone shuts down at 15–20% battery
- Charging from 0 to 100% takes significantly longer or shorter than before
- The phone gets noticeably warm during normal use
- The back of the phone is slightly bulging (swollen battery — urgent replacement)
Premium Replacement vs Genuine Apple — Which Two Options Exist
For newer models (iPhone 13 and later) we offer three battery options:
Premium Replacement (shows %) — a quality aftermarket battery that displays the battery health percentage in settings (Battery Health). Capacity is equal to or greater than the original. An excellent option for most users — you get a new battery with full capacity at an affordable price.
JCID Enhanced (coming soon) — a new premium tier in preparation. Imported directly from the JCID factory (China). +8-10% more capacity than the original Apple battery of the same generation, no "Important Battery Message" pop-up warning, Battery Health display works normally (percentage and Maximum Capacity visible in Settings). 3-month warranty with a fiscal receipt. Available for the iPhone 12, 13 and 14 series. Pricing will be announced as soon as the batteries arrive at the shop — call 065/362-61-31 to reserve one for your model.
Genuine Apple (Original) — an original Apple battery. Full software integration, no warnings in settings, Battery Health shows 100% accurate information. For users who want everything done strictly by the book.
Starting with the iPhone 13, Apple uses software-based battery verification. Premium replacement batteries have a chip that communicates with the system and displays Battery Health data. Regular (non-Premium) replacement batteries do not support this, and the iPhone displays an "Unknown Part" warning.

What Battery Replacement Looks Like
The procedure is relatively straightforward compared to a screen replacement:
- Opening the device — The technician removes the screen or the back glass (depending on the model) using specialized tools.
- Removing the old battery — The battery is secured with adhesive strips that are carefully pulled out.
- Installing the new battery — The new battery is positioned and secured.
- Closing and testing — Voltage check, charging test and calibration.
Replacement usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. For newer models (iPhone 15 Pro Max and later), the procedure can be somewhat more complex due to the device's construction.
Is It Worth Replacing the Battery or Buying a New Phone
This depends on the model and the overall condition of the device. As a guideline:
Battery replacement is worth it when:
- The phone is otherwise fully functional (screen, camera, buttons)
- The model is still supported by Apple (receives updates)
- The battery replacement cost is below 15% of the value of a new phone of the same model
Consider replacing the phone when:
- The battery is not the only problem (screen, camera, connectors)
- The model no longer receives iOS updates
- The device is 5+ years old and other components are also near the end of their life
For the iPhone 14 and newer models, battery replacement is almost always worthwhile. For the iPhone 12 and older, it depends on the overall condition of the device. If you are selling your old phone, take a look at our iPhone buyback page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does battery replacement erase data from the phone?
No. Battery replacement does not affect the device's memory. All data, apps and settings remain intact. Still, we recommend making a backup before any repair — that is good practice regardless of the type of intervention.
How long does a new battery last?
A quality replacement battery has a lifespan comparable to the original — expect 500+ charge cycles before it drops below 80% capacity. In practical terms, that is 18 to 24 months of heavy use.
Does Apple show a non-original battery warning after replacement?
Yes, from the iPhone 11 series onward, Apple displays an "Unknown Part" message in the battery settings if the battery was not replaced through an Apple authorized service provider. This is purely an informational message — it does not affect the phone's functionality or the battery's performance.
What is a swollen battery and is it dangerous?
A swollen battery is one that has begun to chemically break down, and gases inside the cell cause it to physically expand. It can be recognized by a bulge in the back of the phone or by the screen separating from the frame. This is a potentially dangerous condition (fire risk) and requires urgent replacement. Do not charge a phone with a swollen battery.
Can I replace the battery myself?
Technically it is possible, but we do not recommend it. The iPhone battery is secured with special adhesive strips, and access requires specialized tools. An incorrect procedure can lead to damage to the display cable, battery puncture (fire risk) or loss of dust protection. Professional replacement costs relatively little and eliminates these risks.
Why does a Premium replacement show the percentage while a regular one doesn't?
Starting with the iPhone 13, Apple uses software-based battery verification. Premium replacement batteries have a chip that communicates with the system and displays Battery Health data in settings. Regular replacement batteries do not support this, and the iPhone displays an "Unknown Part" warning. Functionality is not compromised, but you have no insight into the battery's health.
What do you do with the old battery?
We dispose of old batteries in accordance with electronic waste regulations. We do not throw them in the trash — lithium-ion batteries require special disposal due to the risk of fire and pollution.
Do you offer a courier service for battery replacement?
Yes. A courier picks up the phone and returns it after the replacement. The courier service costs 1.500 RSD and covers all of Belgrade. To schedule, call 065/362-61-31.
