iPhone Battery Replacement — When Is the Right Time and How Much It Costs
Every lithium-ion battery has a limited lifespan. Apple designs iPhone batteries to retain at least 80% of their capacity after 500 complete charge cycles, which in average use means about two years. After that period, the degradation accelerates and the consequences become noticeable — the phone drains faster, shuts down in the cold, or shows an inaccurate charge percentage.
In this article we explain how to recognize that the battery has reached its end, how much a replacement costs by model and what to expect from the procedure.
How to check the battery's condition
Apple has included a built-in tool for checking battery health:
Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging
Here you will see the maximum capacity percentage. The meaning:
- 90–100% — The battery is in excellent condition. A replacement is not needed.
- 80–89% — Noticeably shorter life. For intensive users, this can be limiting, but the phone is still functional.
- Below 80% — Apple itself shows the message "Battery performance is significantly degraded". A replacement is recommended.
Besides the percentage, pay attention to the phone's behavior:
- The phone shuts down at 15–20% battery
- Charging from 0 to 100% takes significantly longer or shorter than before
- The phone heats up noticeably during normal use
- The back of the phone is slightly bulging (a swollen battery — an urgent replacement)
Premium replacement vs Genuine Apple — which options exist
For newer models (iPhone 13 and newer) we offer three battery options:
Premium Replacement (shows %) — a quality aftermarket battery that displays the battery health percentage in the settings (Battery Health). The capacity is equal to or greater than the original. An excellent option for most users — you get a new battery with full capacity at an affordable price.
JCID Enhanced (coming soon) — a new premium tier in preparation. A direct import from the JCID factory (China). +8-10% greater capacity than the original Apple battery of the same generation, with no "Important Battery Message" pop-up warning, the Battery Health display works normally (the percentage and Maximum Capacity are visible in Settings). A 3-month warranty with a fiscal receipt. Available for the iPhone 12, 13 and 14 series. The price will be published as soon as the batteries arrive at the shop — call 065/362-61-31 to reserve one for your model.
Genuine Apple (Original) — an original Apple battery. Full software integration, no warning in the settings, Battery Health shows 100% accurate information. For users to whom it matters that everything is exactly by the book.
From the iPhone 13 onward Apple uses a software battery check. Premium replacement batteries have a chip that communicates with the system and displays Battery Health data. Ordinary (non-Premium) replacement batteries do not support this and the iPhone shows the "Unknown Part" warning.

What the battery replacement looks like
The procedure is relatively simple compared to a screen replacement:
- Opening the device — The technician removes the screen or the back glass (depending on the model) using a specialized tool.
- Removing the old battery — The battery is fastened with adhesive strips that are carefully pulled out.
- Fitting the new battery — The new battery is positioned and fixed.
- Closing and testing — Checking the voltage, charging and calibration.
The replacement time is most often 30 to 45 minutes. For newer models (iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer), the procedure can be somewhat more complex due to the construction of the device.
Is it worth replacing the battery or buying a new phone
This depends on the model and the general condition of the device. As a guideline:
A battery replacement is worth it when:
- The phone is otherwise fully working (screen, camera, buttons)
- The model is still supported by Apple (receives updates)
- The price of the battery replacement is below 15% of the value of a new phone of the same model
Consider replacing the phone when:
- The battery is not the only problem (screen, camera, ports)
- The model no longer receives iOS updates
- The device is 5+ years old and the other parts are also near their end
For the iPhone 14 and newer models, a battery replacement is almost always worth it. For the iPhone 12 and older, it depends on the overall condition of the device. If you are selling an old phone, see our iPhone buyback page.

Frequently asked questions
Does a battery replacement erase data from the phone?
No. A battery replacement does not affect the device's memory. All data, apps and settings remain untouched. Still, we recommend making a backup before every repair — it is good practice regardless of the type of intervention.
How long does a new battery last?
A quality replacement battery has a lifespan comparable to the original — expect 500+ charge cycles before dropping below 80% capacity. In practical conditions, that is 18 to 24 months of intensive use.
Does Apple show a warning about a non-original battery after the replacement?
Yes, from the iPhone 11 series onward, Apple shows the "Unknown Part" message in the battery settings if the battery was not replaced through an Apple authorized service. This is purely an informational message — it does not affect the functionality of the phone or the performance of the battery.
What is a swollen battery and is it dangerous?
A swollen battery is a battery that has started to break down chemically, and gases inside the cell cause physical expansion. It is recognized by a bulging of the back of the phone or by the screen separating from the frame. This is a potentially dangerous condition (a fire risk) and requires an urgent replacement. Do not charge a phone with a swollen battery.
Can I replace the battery myself?
It is technically possible, but we do not recommend it. The iPhone battery is fastened with special adhesive strips, and access requires a specialized tool. A wrong procedure can lead to damage to the screen cable, a rupture of the battery (a fire risk) or the loss of dust protection. A professional replacement costs relatively little and eliminates these risks.
Why does a Premium replacement show the percentage and an ordinary one does not?
From the iPhone 13 onward Apple uses a software battery check. Premium replacement batteries have a chip that communicates with the system and displays Battery Health data in the settings. Ordinary replacement batteries do not support this and the iPhone shows the "Unknown Part" warning. Functionality is not compromised, but you do not have insight into the battery's health.
What do you do with the old battery?
We dispose of old batteries in accordance with the regulations for electronic waste. We do not throw them in the trash — lithium-ion batteries require special disposal because of the risk of fire and pollution.
Do you offer a courier service for a battery replacement?
Yes. A courier comes to pick up the phone and returns it after the replacement. The price of the courier service is 1,500 RSD and it covers all of Belgrade. To book, call 065/362-61-31.
